Quote from C.S. Lewis

Rachel Held Evans had a great post this AM about "who" are we supposed to follow, the bible or Christ? She had this quote from C.S. Lewis and I want to share it....I LOVE it!

"It is Christ Himself, not the Bible, who is the true Word of God. The Bible, read in the right spirit, and with the guidance of good teachers, will bring us to Him." C.S. Lewis

Fire of the Word

Enjoyed listening to Chris Webb's synopsis of his new book -- sounds excellent, and timely -- and so true! After all, that is one thing we are trying to do with this group -- to expand the Scriptures / the Gospel so that it becomes real for each one of us.

Am now reading Simone Weil (French philosopher) and am intrigued by her book, which until now I have only heard quotes from. So here are a couple to ponder, which seem to me to fit into what we've been trying to learn -- or unlearn?! -- these past few months:

"...the paradox of its being easier for a non-Christian to become a Christian, than for a "Christian" to become one. . ."

In light of possible books to study next, she (Weil) wrote about "The Love of Our Neighbour" from which I quote: "The Gospel makes no distinction between the love of our neighbour and justice."

And, "we must prefer real hell to an imaginery paradise."

Just wandering thoughts . . .for the beginning of a new year!!
